"top eight" or so perceived teams you get called up at some point regardless of whether you really deserve it. Mason is an example and now I keep hearing that Eric Dier is on for a call up. Townsend I suppose has at least played well for England a couple of times when he's been picked.

Redmond will be desperate to play for the full England side and the concern would be that he will (possibly rightly) feel that is not going to happen if he stays with us.
