Depending on how many of you there are and how much you trust them, can you club together with loans to get them over the savings threshold? (?65k ish tho so pretty hefty requirement). he'd then get leave to remain, could look for a job etc?

I'm guessing he's going to be stuffed for a temp visitor visa if he's now a refugee.
