Yes and yes

Even when it's quiet you've got people bombing past at 70+, if it's busy and both lanes are being used, traffic in the inside lane can't pull over to give you space (not that everyone does that anyway). You also get blown about when lorries and vans come past. To top it off you'll be riding in the gutter with all the s**te, dirt, broken glass, litter, bits of car etc.
