Symptomatic of the perils of technological advance I'm afraid.

Technology created the steel industry, now technology is removing the need for people to operate it. Even the advantage of a cheap labour force is disappearing as automation forges ahead.

Large scale manufacturing of physical goods is dying & not coming back. it's the elephant in the room again; how do you equitably distribute wealth when that wealth (of we've never had so much) is not related to people producing it?

The history of the world is the history of technology.
