I didn't explain that very clearly...

Try again:

Coral - you put ?10 on west ham to win
Betfair - you take a bet of ?10 from somebody else on west ham to win.

If west ham do win, you get your money from coral but pay the other person on betfair.

West ham lose, you lose ?10 and keep the ?10 on the betfair bet.

So, worst case you lose the difference between the odds of west ham winning given to you by coral, and the odds you have given on the betfair bet. If west ham don't win you're flat.
