It's not a class thing, as I pointed out plenty of those from modest backgrounds are big fans.

The real numbers in terms of TV viewing figures, attendances etc simply do not justify the media coverage. Look them up (and that "4 billion people watch the tournament" is a huge lie as well - technically the potential viewer reach through international coverage is 4 billion... Big difference).

And ticket prices are ludicrous in anyone's book. 85 quid for the final I'd understand, but the minimum price for that is hundreds (with the exception of a few token tickets that are less). Even tickets for mismatches and unattractive fixtures between tiny nations are too high.

Plenty of people seem willing to pay the high prices, though, so what do I know.
