I thought the same really about why these refugees, why this, why now (particularly as I've seen far, far more harrowing photos from Syria, to the point my initial thought on seeing the Indie's lead photo was 'is that it? That's what's caused this hoo hah?'). I'm also deeply sceptical about NGOs and the harm they have probabpy done in some places. But ultimately it came down to this feeling like the right time for the UK and Europe to finally be developing a conscience.

Plus having three kids younger than that lad doesn't help, particularly as one has gone and got herself a heart murmur to worry us with (I'm convinced it's just a ploy to get more cuddles from us). Life feels that bit more precious these days.
