It's a good deal for us though whatever happens

if he's s**t we just get rid of him at the end of the season. If he does enough to keep us up then we can either sign him or look for other options. If he is amazing, then he'll almost certainly keep us up; someone else may well buy him then, but we can return to the market with a lot more money in our pocket.

If we paid 7m for him and he's s**t, we're stuck with him on big wages, like we have been with RvW. That's probably too much of a risk to take - especially on a 29 year old who has never played in a top league and has almost no re-sale value.
