Wonder how that affects you mentally

you have a great season in the Championship and end up celebrating promotion with your teammates, only to be considered not strong enough for the top league.

So he goes to Derby and they battle for promotion. Surely there's that niggling doubt that this is as good as it gets, they'll just let him go if they meet their objectives.

Must be difficult to commit with that in mind.
