Cry, Wolf

NORWICH have revealed the astonishing figures behind their transfer wheeler-dealings.

Taking out a payday-loan style agreement is not unusual ? but the details the Canaries provide in documents for their agreement with Barclays are a real eye-opener.

It gives figures for transfer fees, sell-on payments and even performance-related clauses for deals such as the signing of flop striker Ricky van Wolfswinkel.

Norwich borrowed cash which they will repay from instalments of TV money between now and August.

As part of the ?deed of assignment?, the Canaries sang about payments they must make this season and in the future.

It illustrates how hit and miss transfers can be. First there is Van Wolfswinkel.

Signed for an initial fee of 10m Euros (then ?8.5m) from Sporting Lisbon in 2013, he scored just one league goal in Norwich?s relegation season and spent last term on loan at Saint-Etienne. And Norwich will have to pay Lisbon ?854,700 if the Dutchman hits the goal target in his contract.

That is at least ONE payment the Canaries would happily make.

But they still owe Arsenal ?310,000 for Ignasi Miquel, who left this summer for Ponferradina in Spain.

In the ?future liabilities? column, there is ?890,000 related to appearances and top-flight survival. Miquel is unlikely to play for Norwich again, but if they stay up, they must pay Arsenal for a player who did not contribute anything.

Norwich made a profit when they sold Leroy Fer to QPR for ?8m last summer, but ?1,310,388 is going to Fer?s former club Twente as a sell-on fee.

Injury has restricted Vadis Odjidja-Ofoe to just six appearances since he joined last year from Brugge, who will be paid ?1,161,232.

Another ?1,377,103 is going to Palermo for Kyle Lafferty, the striker who was loaned to Turkey?s Rizespor last season.
