Actually, your comment about history being written by the victors reminded me of when we

visited the air and space museum in Washington and went to see the Enola Gay. There was a statement by the exhibit stating they wanted to present a balanced explanation of reasons for and against the dropping of the atom bombs but had been prevented by protests from veterans.

Even if you could argue a case for a bomb on Hiroshima to stop a dreadful war, it's hard to see how you can justify one a few days later on Nagasaki.
