Not quite ?10k - we could barely afford the mortgage 25 years ago when we got it but

it does seem cheap now! I wouldn't be interested in the country. I like cities! I like being able to walk to the shops or the cinema (or Carrow Rd). Sounds like you have a sensible attitude to houses though. That's the approach on the continent too - rent rather than buy!
