Gemma played in the England Girls (U-18) Championships at Sheringham this week. Lovely course and we saw how it plays in different wind directions, rain and sun. Free accommodation in Thorpe thanks to family friend
Decent R1, ended up +5. Was level after 10 but a couple of poor shots and a double made the score worse than it should have been. Gemma was 18th of 95.
R2, started badly in the wind + rain was +4 after 7 against the elements which were very tough. Kept composed and a couple of birdies meant we moved up a few places to 12th. She ended with another +5; even though score was the same as R1 played better as conditions tougher.
Made cut easily to play 36 on final day.
R3 Gemma played really well, but no putts dropped. Three lip-outs for birdies didn?t help. Was +1 after 9, dropped a silly shot on 16, then out of nowhere doubled the last for a +4. Played well enough for an under par round. Moved up to 11th.
R4 featured crazy golf for the first three holes where Gemma could well have been +4, but somehow escaped to be level thanks to a bad drive which ended up on 18th fairway, a 40 foot putt and a miraculous par saving chip from a massive upslope 75 yards from the flag. Game settled down and varied between steady + untidy. Driving good but irons not great - because of this she played conservatively didn?t chase birdies and two putted from distances a number of times. Ended up +2 having played much worse than R3.
Final Result 10th a great result in a National Competition.
