Like you, whatever I might think of his ability to manage a football team, I've always regarded Worthy as dignified. I've always thought his media work was one of his strong points: refusal to discuss transfers in or out in the media (the total opposite of Rednapp for example) and his refusal to blame players publically - although that's slipped a bit to not very good effect this season.
Regarding the arrogance of fans, I'm not sure I agree so much - at least not personally. We should be beating teams like Plymouth - not because we're a big club and they're a little club; but because if we cannot then we have no pretence to promotion via play-offs or otherwise. With the squad we were relegated with and eventually found its way on to the pitch in the opening game, we should be challenging. Just as we should have made a better fist of it last season.
No argument with you about Thorne - I whined long and hard when it was announced - a complete waste of time and money when we should have been concentrating slim resources in midfield & central defence
