Geekynerd techno question - only Pens need reply (yes I did a smell up the USB)

Here goes:

had a video MP4 on the pc - saved it to a memory stick and put it in an NEC Display note screen (used for CCTV)
wouldn't play video (but would display photos)
converted it to an AVI - now have more options in menu but still wont play, any ideas please?
