I think the BBC are instinctively leftish, as are most arts type people.

Also left wingers tend to be more entertaining, if overly shouty which I find intensely annoying. A lot of news coverage is pretty good though.
I do regret the demise of intellectual depth on the beeb. When I were a lad you had programmes like The Ascent Of Man, Men Of Ideas & The Great Philosophers. Now it's f**king East Enders. You slag.
