SORN

I've done a background check on a car and found out it is registered as SORN, i.e. off the road. Anyone know what I need to do to legally take it for a test drive? I found a place that will give me insurance on it for a day, but is that enough to cover the car being on the road too, coz that was unclear. And if I buy the car, how quickly can I get it unSORN? A call to DVLA required methinks - I'm sorn out...
