GR is a bit of a mindf**k but anyone who isn't completely blown away by quantum mechanics doesn't understand it. Yet it's one of the most successful theories we've got. Some quite basic but still very counterintuitive stuff like tunnelling is why flash drives work (for example). I've moved way from maths since Uni but still keep a hobbyist's eye on this stuff as it develops - so fascinating.
