...something which I wholly concur with.
They said the Board, or, if I'm being generous, people within the upper echelons of this club didn't want Premiership football as the club could not answer the demand and expectation that went with it, and that, regular and consistant mid-Championship finishes, coupled with the knowledge that all of us sheep will continue to go week in, week out, will keep the good ship Norwich sailing along merrily, and without any drama, pressure, or that dreadful "e" word, expectation.
I can't argue with that & wouldn't be at all surprised if it was exactly how some people felt.
The problem is, if you are going to be happy with that level of mediocrity, then you have to find other ways of getting the money in, one way is to raise it by selling players for big fees-as Crewe have done and admirably survived, fighting way above their weight.
If they had our Board, they'd be happy with that, but in one division lower.
Most of the players we buy aren't going to have any sell on value, and, as Worthington seems to be totally and utterly against the youth set up and giving the players a sustained opportunity and in their right positions, we aren't going to make much money that way.
One wonders if the only way ahead is investment or a take over, but are they looking for it, and would they encourage it, or would it be, "no, no, we don't want your money, this is Norwich, a nice family club..."
I think thats esactly what they'd say and do.
