Striking that even when dscussing that, though, he couldn't resist another pop at liberal lefties (who would be the very people who'd be trying to help him here!):

"He stated publicly that he would prefer to end his own life than suffer the indignities of the final stages of the disease; in an interview he stated, "The truth is that I would be more likely to drive myself in a wheel-chair off a cliff in Cornwall than go to Dignitas and speak to a bearded social worker about my future."

A bit symbolic of him, perhaps. So confrontational - even when there was no need to confront anyone.
