I went to a school that was about as diverse as they come

Germans, Bulgarians, Russians, Kenyans, Ethiopians, South Africans, Australians, chinese, Japanese all in my year group. At lunch it would have been a similar photo. Doesn't mean anything other than humans are creatures of habit. I have some great friends from all of those nationalities but when congregating the same groups always emerged.
