Think. To be honest I don't even believe its what he thinks. It was just a poor joke probably due to the fact he's a scientist and not a comedian.

personally, if a Nobel winking scientist is sexist I don't really care. If he's good at his job that should be recognised professionally and if he's a t**t otherwise that should be recognised personally. Some of the most brilliant, creative people in history held very strange or even abhorrent views.
