Remember reading an article about 25 years ago about EPO

Several Dutch cyclists died suddenly in their sleep. They were taking the first EPO but didn't know what they were doing. Their blood was so thick with red blood cells that they were having heart attacks when their heart was at its slowest (deep sleep). Because EPO is basically a natural hormone, it was almost impossible to detect and the manufacturers refused to add a marker they could test for.
