that are heavily endurance/strength based are doping these days (and have been for the last 20 years). The advantages of doping are so great (+10-15%) that it's inconceivable that a 'clean' athlete could overcome that.
Training methods and technology has obviously improved significantly as well, but the dopers also have the benefit of that - so the physiological gap between dopers and clean athletes is still huge.
