Caffeine certainly is a diuretic, but when the delivery mechanism for that small dose of caffeine is 300ml of water, then the diuretic effect is more than compensated.
Espresso obv a different animal. But if you're drinking enough espresso to get caffeine dehydration, the caffeine dehydration is a long way down in your list of problems.
No idea about energy drink bollocks, no idea how much caffeine is in them.
