getting a personal VPN is good for a number of things.
While its nice to be able to watch TV stuff from other countries its also adds a whole layer of security when travelling.
As an example if you login to a coffeeshop wifi or some other untrusted wifi, then all your transmissions are highly encrypted. You can log in to UK bank accounts without fear that your data is being intercepted.
Plus your bank wont have an IP panic as they think you are still in the UK.
Some VPNs are better than others.
The best way to test them is via DNS leaktest

Clicking on it should tell you where the internet thinks you are located.
