If he is even close to what he was before, them he would undoubtedly strengthen the squad.

If it's a choice between him and someone better then obviously it's the latter, but I wouldn't see strengthening the squad as moving backwards just because he's a former player. Caveats on price and how much his injury has affected his abilities, of course.
