You cant have PR and designated constituency MPs. For better or for worse, that's the system that this country has. AV would, perhaps, have been a fairer way to elect a local MP than FPTP but we rejected it.
To have PR, you need to abolish constituency MPs in favour of party lists (like in Euro elections and, I think, Holyrood? Might be mistaken on that last one). You'd never again have a 'Portillo moment' (Or a 'Balls moment' or a 'Jim Muphy' moment) and a local area would never be able to depose an MP that they didn't like. The price we pay for that is FPTP and smaller parties not being in Parliament.
If you want more equal boundary sizes then you will probably get that once the Tories get around to it (Lib Dems stopped them last time)
