I think the main reason he had bad days in the past was because he was a bit too heavy and not really a top notch climber - so he had to dig deeper and go more into the red than other contenders in the first couple of weeks. If he has lost weight then he should be able to save more energy for the final week.
The key result for me this season wasn't his stage race wins, but his National TT win. It was only a very slightly hilly course, but he beat the likes of Dennis, Durbridge, Hepburn - even put two minutes into Rogers. That combination of losing weight and improving time trialling makes him much stronger than in previous years.
