If I were David Cameron I'd be much keener on a coalition than governing alone precisely because it buttresses him against the "bastards" John Major complained about.

Cameron's a Tory through and through but he's not the nasty right-wing sort. Plenty of their MPs are and the risk is he's held to ransom by them. Which would be a Very Bad Thing.
