I had an MRI done a few years back. The actual scan is fine, just lie still and ignore the noises. I think it took about a week for results to come back (I wasn't dying - yay) but I'm not certain - this was in Berks and practice in God's County may well be different.
On insurance, if you've got life/critical illness cover in place already, the CI cover would kick in with a diagnosis that meant you were critically ill. Some life insurance policies pay out if end of life is dramatically near.
If you haven't, the bad news is that they'll ask you if you're undergoing investigations for major illnesses. As you are they may decline to cover you, or load the premiums through the roof. I'm not a pro in this area but have had some experience on the claims end with some of my family. If a pro comes along and knows better, listen to them not me as I may be out of date.
It's a worrying time and we're all thinking of you. I bumped into Garry the other day and I know he'll give you an extra sloppy kiss from me x
