you wont get a software update for the hudl as they locked it down and they aren't supporting now the hudl 2 is out

in terms of improvements....

kitkat brought us
*better lock screen controls
* enchanced caller app (no concern on a tablet)
* OK google search

lollipop brings
* better notifications
* better performance (new run time and gubbins)
* better design
* multi user support

if you're coping with 512mb ram in the hudl (kinda grates me now - doesnt get used so much as a bit slow) then dont worry too much about the OS.

next tablet purchase look for lots of RAM and as up to date on the OS as possible. not for features, but for future proofing
