The problem is, it's easier to demand high pay and change jobs / refuse to accept a new role that pays less than you want (and therefore inevitably accepting periods of unemployment) if you're an exec with lots of money in the bank. It's less easy to do that as a grunt, particularly if there are lots of other grunts looking for the same job and willing to undercut each other.

I surprise myself by thinking that Unions should be a bit more fashionable...
