I don't think that's quite fair

i very much doubt that a Conservative chancellor would have done any better in terms of avoiding the global meltdown

I do agree with you that Balls would have been very unlikely to have improved the economy as much over the last five years as GO/DA have done. However, whether he'd be stupid enough to f**k it up now that it's on the mend is another question. he must just keep it on track and then claim the credit for reforms he'd never have dared make.
