I don't blame him but he gets no credit for our current success or promotion if we go up

The best you can say is that he was not horrendously bad for someone with zero relevant experience but we underperformed under him as us now being clearly illustrated. If we miss out on promotion it will be due to the boards decision to appoint him (and not trying to score v Wednesday second half ;-))
