I seem to remember the Party being a bit miffed that he'd stood as David was supposed to be the anointed one, but evidently he didn't have the Unions' support.
Fallon was being a bit of a dick IMO - I don't think personal atacks like that have any place in UK politics. He's just grandstanding to fight off the UKIP vote.
