If I was Ashton

in a world cup year I would definitely be looking to leave - and I'm a Norwich fan which I don't suppose he is. If he stays and scores say 20 more goals in the remaining games he will still have no chance on getting in the World Cup squad, however if he moved now to say Newcastle or Man City and scores say 10 goals between now and the end of the season he has an outside chance of making the squad. He has to look at it and think he is a better player than Crouch and was rated higher than Bent by Under 21 coaches and with Johnson not allowed to move he could leapfrog him. An injury or 2 to those ahead of him and he could get in but only if he left.

Sadly the same could be said for Greeno - who did his chances of the England squad a power of good with his gaff yesterday. At the moment he is probably 4th choice for the World Cup behind a certain Robinson, James cos he is the only one with tournament experience and Kirkland if fit seems to be thought more of. If Greeno stays then barring injuries he won't make the squad.

Sad state of affairs but if we were in Readings position then they'd have more chance but for both players, this could be their only chance at a World Cup (especially in Greeno's case who has 2 similar aged keepers ahead of him and who knows who will come through by 2010). I hope they both stay but I personallyh wouldn't begrudge either if they decided to move on to bigger and better at this stage.
