Thing is

Ed is so utterly useless that anything north of minus infinity counts as a win in most peoples eyes.

This is why Caneron has refused the head to head, of course: Ed can only do par or over perform while he can only do par or under perform.

I actually despair of our politics at the moment. Brown was the most hated, the most beatable Prime Minister I can ever remember. Yet Caneron didn't actually, properly, beat him (which is why much of his party doesn't trust him).

ed millipede is the most ridiculous party leader I can remember. Major was replete with charisma compared to him.

Yet Caneron is only neck and neck with him.

So we have a guy who couldn't beat the most unlectable PM we've ever had, against a guy who looks like he shouldn't be trusted with scissors.

Of course the real narrative of this election is the Great Disenfranchised thing (break left, vote Green; break right, vote UKIP; never mind that neither is remotely on Planet Earth).

I know I'm terribly old, but I do find myself yearning for the days of competing views of the world: philosophies which dictated policies, some of which were a bit mad (on both sides) but at least there was some kind of intellectual coherence.

I have no doubt that, once I'm dead, my kids will have similar views but with the current period as the Point Of Reference Not-Quite-Golden Age
