Any terrorist could attack a pilot leaving the cabin for the key. And it might be that that pilot was pushed out and locked out for a good reason so you wouldn't want him to get back in. Pretty hard to stop really. Even if you make a rule of at least two having to stay in the cockpit it might stop suicide but not a terrorist plot I'd they're both in on it.

You could have an override from atc maybe?

But it would have been very opportunistic. Not often a pilot leaves the cockpit on such a short flight. This was only 30 minutes or so after take off. You have thought his mum taught him to go to the toilet before he left.
