In all walks of life never take no for an answer and never accept defeat - I wouldn't associate that with anything other than positivity, optimism and what could easily be badged as being a fantasist.
Equally though, I don't think jim was being pessimistic, rather he was optimistic pre game and left disappointed. The only difference was that he voiced that disappointment and frustration in a way which was critical whereas others take a different approach. No one is right or wrong. As you say it's borne out of us all believing we've got a squad that is capable of achieving promotion.
