Plus Gus was a victim of his own success

It was amazing he kept them up - tribute to the impact he made on a group of really poor players

But it raised expectations and reintroduced complacency. If they'd gone down last season he wouldn't have been sacked - because he kept them up, they somehow reached the view they had turned a corner and were now going to be comfortable
