I say it isn't as good I am not being an Apple fan. It's just that with AppleTV you can Airplay anything to it pretty much. And just mirror your desktop / device to it. Whereas with Chromecast if you want to stream local media it is a bit more of a pain in the arse - certain formats and has to be streamed via Chrome browser.
Both work fine. Apple TV just has a few more features which is why the price is a little higher. Having said that the prices here just dropped by 20 euros to 79 euros so it's not expensive. Fantastic bit of gear.
But I installed a Chromecast for a friend a couple of weeks ago and she's more than happy with it. Worked great with the apps which supported it. Is great with streaming content. Just not as easy to stream local content as the Apple TV was. But then I only played with it for 10 minutes.
Oh, and you get an Apple Remote with the Apple TV. You can also use the remote app on your device but you have a small aluminium simple remote control which is handy. With the Chromecast you have to use your device with the Chrome app.
