Top Gear is popular and the online petition speaks for itself.

People like Clarkson and Top Gear as it doesn't pander to the typical politically correct bland agenda of the rest of the BBC. Although there have stepped over the line a few times admittedly.

This is the folly of the BBC. They are pushing an agenda that no one wants, proved by the popularity of Top Gear, and then cancel the shows just over a minor scuffle.
Seems like they just wanted an excuse to bin it.
Their loss. Sky or ITVs gain. They'll have it in a heartbeat.
