As far as we are concerned, Tettey taking a yellow after 80+ mins yesterday was a positive move - it didn't benefit Ipswich and, if things go as planned, it should help out our season. But surely this was not how the rulemakers intended things to be? Surely if you get a yellow card then you should be penalised in some way?
So how about this......
If a player picks up a yellow card in the last, let's say 15 mins of a match, if they don't pick up another yellow and get sent off then instead they start their next match already on a yellow, and therefore at significant risk of a red card.
It may be that this would be over zealous and result in games being ruined by more red cards, or it might mean that players were more wary before wasting time or committing cynical fouls and that managers might have to think if they could afford to start a player already on a yellow - who knows, just a thought.
In the meantime, and with the rules as they are, you've got to credit Tettey - if that proves to be the difference between 1pt and 3pts against Derby then there won't be many of us complaining!
