Very understated and I like a fool never asked him. Had a couple of stories about hiding behind an oak tree when being attacked by a stuka I think and having the choice of making a run for it or staying hiding in a barn. He and a few others took their chance and his mates who stayed didn't make it. Should have asked so much more as all i have now are his medals.
