Friendship Trophy and all that...
As for 2002: I had a 10,000 word paper to write for my doctorate, which would be delivered on the Tuesday after the final. Was the most important paper I'd ever written - but nothing was happening. I remember crying on about the Wednesday; deleting it all and starting again... then travelling down from Oxford to London on the Saturday night, from Heathrow to Cardiff on the Sunday, only to see THAT happen.
I wasn't gutted by the outcome. I was furious. To me, we did nothing after going 1-0 up; just sat back, sat back and waited for them to equalise. The whole shape of the team went wrong when Notman came on. But after watching my team lose the play-off final on penalties, I had to head straight back to Oxford and write that damn paper! I managed it though. Ended up the best academic paper I'd ever written in my life - God knows how.
