BT routers expose two networks: your private BtHub4-xx network

(or at least, that's the sort of name mine uses), and also a public BT-with-fon or BTWiFi network. That one anyone with BT broadband can connect to, but they have to post-connect validate with their BT credentials (exposing this public network is the cost you pay for being able to access other people's networks with your BT credentials).

See if the laptops behave any differently when you disconnect from your private network, and connect to the public one. If the public one works OK, I suppose you'll need to talk to BT support (good luck with that). Even if it doesn't work, it might still need a call to BT.

(You can turn that public network off if you want, but then you lose the ability to connect to BT-with-Fon networks all over the country.)
