Too much sneering and sarcasm for me. Instinctually, I'm VERY cynical about

anything Putin does, having read Peter Pomorenko, and listened to the programme about maskarovka. But I'm aware that we only really get one side of the story over here. So any other views are of interest to me at this stage.

Having said that, at the moment it does stink of opportunism and duplicity on the part of Putin....
