Conflicting thoughts though.
As I mentioned y'day, in Italy a highly respected former national manager bemoans the (too high) number of blacks in youth football and in Spain, players have to accept that police and stewards just watch supporters doing monkey impressions.
And yet, in this country, education about racism is well developed with the stigmatisation of words like 'coloured' an example.
Soooo yes, society's problem, not football's. But itsn't this *particular* society doing better than most? Although we cannot always expect every individual to behave, isn't the UK generally and collectively intolerant of racism?
Collective horror at examples of racism is not a sign of empty liberal posturing but an indication of the prevailing view. Those Chelsea fans shame us all.
