Well worth a visit. But try to stay fairly close to where you want to be exploring as

the traffic is absolutely f**king horrendous, especially if you have to cross the Bosphorus bridge.

I think the three times I've been there I spent about 40% each time in traffic jams (was staying at in-laws so not in the touristy bits). The public transport which does exist is really limited to the tourist centre. So yeah you have 13m people with next to no public transport, and the obvious result of that.

Grand Bazaar, Blue Mosque, Hagia Sofia of course, but also check out Topkapi Palace, the Cistern, etc. Get up to the Bosphorus for nice views and some wonderful restaurants and hotels to grab a scenic drink at.

I never made it to Cappadocia. Really wanted to go. Flew over it a few times en route from Istanbul to Gaziantep, and the scenery was really quite stunning from the air.
